How it Works - Step by Step

Begin collecting or accessing Intelligent Trench data right here - we'll explain how. First, choose a
scenario which best describes your circumstances:

  • Access existing data online
  • Access existing data on site
  • Capture data from an excavation
  • Perform & Upload Non-invasive surveys

Example scenario: A contractor or utility company is planning works in a known area. Typically in this scenario the contractor would log in to the Intelligent Trench database to see what information already exists to help better plan a more acurately targeted and smaller excavation.

Process

  • Contact Exor to obtain registered access to the database
  • Log in to the Exor site and search for existing information
The data owners (those who originally uploaded those markers) can at this stage add or modify information on their own markers
  • Further subscription services with additional benefits are available by contacting Exor

Example scenario: A contractor or utility company is at the location of planned works and wishes to view existing information at the location itself in order to plan works, carry out carefully targeted digs and avoid 3rd party damage.

Process

  • Purchase and connect your hardware (compatible GPS PDA & 3M Dynatel™ locator). Please see our detailed instructions for more information and our where to buy page
  • Install U-Track software on the GPS PDA
  • Visit the site location. The 3M Dynatel™ locator will help you home in on the actual location of an existing marker
  • Read the marker using the 3M Dynatel™ locator. The U-Track software running on your GPS PDA will then access the records for you*

Example scenario: Works are being carried out in open hole or trench excavations. This is where much of the data is captured and recorded for future reference.

Process

  • Contact Exor to obtain registered access to the database
  • Purchase and connect your hardware (compatible GPS PDA, 3M Dynatel™ locator, 3M Dynatel™ General Purpose RFID marker ball). Please see our detailed instructions for more information and our where to buy page
  • Install U-Track software on the GPS PDA
  • Install the 3M Marker according to the installation instructions
  • Create a record using the U-Track software running on your GPS PDA, including photographs of the excavation
  • The U-Track software will automatically upload your records, either via GPRS* or subsequent ActiveSync connection on an internet connected PC

Example scenario: A contractor or utility company is planning works in a known area. Insufficient information exists from various records to be able to adequately plan the job. Historically, expensive exploratory excavations are carried out to locate the buried services. Using Virtual Trialholes at a fraction of the cost, a detailed survey can be carried out and stored on the Intelligent Trench database.

Process Non-invasive surveys avoid much of the cost of digging exploratory excavations and reduce the risk of injury, congestion, or Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs). Infotec are a specialist survey provider who will install a 3M Dynatel™ marker at the location of each survey and upload a CAD drawing of the survey to the Intelligent Trench database for you for future reference (users will need to contact Exor for registered access to the database to access it in future). In future users will be able to accurately locate the marker and access this CAD drawing. Dimensions on this drawing will enable users to simply mark out the locations of buried services without excavation. Contact Infotec for more information and a quotation.
